Lansing, MI – For the first time ever, Lansing is joining the likes of Detroit, Grand Rapids, Cleveland, and Milwaukee as a midwestern host site for Maker Faire. Maker Faire is fondly referred to as the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth—a family-friendly festival of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker movement. The inaugural Lansing Maker Faire is scheduled for April 29-30, 2017 and is expected to draw over 5,000 attendees.

Although Maker Faire is an international phenomenon with over 190 events across the globe, the Lansing Maker Faire is a grassroots effort supported by generous sponsors and a committee of volunteers. Community volunteers are crucial to the success of this exciting showcase of hobbies, experiments and projects. As such, the planning committee is seeking passionate event volunteers who are available to assist at the Lansing Maker Faire on April 29th or April 30th.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to assist with all elements of the event including the Hack the Runway Design Challenge, the Robot Prom, Maker exhibitions, hands-on activities, TechnoArt laser cutting and 3D printing showcase and set-up/clean-up. Volunteers can commit as little as two hours of their time or sign up to volunteer all day – scheduling is flexible. The only requirements for volunteers are that they: be 16 years of age or older; are able to stand, walk, and move light objects for extended periods of time; be excited about the Maker movement and awesome technology! Opportunities are also available to serve on the planning committee or assist with pre-event logistics.

Lansing Maker Faire will take place at the Meridian Mall in Okemos, MI on April 29th (10 a.m. – 5 p.m.) and April 30th (12 – 6 p.m.). The event will be free for both attendees and exhibitors thanks to generous sponsorships from Make: Magazine, tinkrLAB, the Mini Maker Foundation, AP Lazer, TechSmith, MSUFCU, LEAP, Spartan Innovations and SeeMeCNC.
